Prairie Work In Progress

Deer Trail Through Wolf Willow

I am beginning a series of work based on some of the small prairie scenes I did in my "30 Paintings in 30 Days" project. This is the start of one. I don't usually do progress shots of my paintings, partly because I never think to take pictures as I go along and partly because I'm not sure my process/progress is that interesting. Anyhoo, I did take a few pictures as this prairie scene went along. At this first stage I am using acrylics to sort out the placement of things and to get the canvas covered with colour so no white peeks out later when I begin using oils. Really it's an underpainting of sorts.

I'm glad you're showing us your process/progress. I always find it interesting to see how other artists create.

I'm also excited to see that box full of 6x6's, because I know they will soon be new Nick Ault's...

Rock on!

Hi Don,

I'm not sure my process is worthy of posting, but it is what it is. I'm glad you find it interesting. I do like it when other artists show their steps and stages.

I think you need the nickname "Hawkeye"... how do you see all the details that you do? Yup, those are 6x6 MDF boards I had cut at Home Depot, much to the dismay of the poor employee. I definitely gave him his challenge for the day!
