I am so proud of this painting. I love it. LOVE IT.

It is one of those pieces that I was certain would sell almost immediately and yet, it has not. Then again, I realized recently that I hadn't actually told anyone about it, so what do I expect? Ha!

Anyway, here it is! One of my favourite paintings so far from this year, "The Winding Spruce at Dusk".

A clear, summer day at the river. The lush, bright greens of spring give way to deeper hues and colours are beginning to make their move toward shades of autumn.

On July 23rd I headed out to the country with my friend and fibre artist, Monika Kinner-Whalen. We were in search of flax fields, but we found so much more. We also visited another friend at her acreage and then headed out on the grids. So much fun, but boy, was it windy!

It doesn't happen often on Waskesiu Lake, but sometimes the waves crash so hard I can hear them from the cabin... which is not particularly close to the water. As a child I used to love jumping in the waves with my best friend (not during a storm). The water never felt as cold as the windy air did when I got out. Playing with such total abandon was always worth the inevitable earache I would have afterward and the sensation of movement I would have even when sitting still. To this day I love watching and listening to the waves crash ashore.

I've been missing my 6x6 size! I did a quick overnight trip to Waskesiu with my oldest son last week and while he spent time with friends, I power painted! I was able to get five and a half new 6x6's done which felt like quite the accomplishment since I have otherwise been working in slow-motion since my solo show at Assiniboia Gallery.

I am crazy about this painting. I feel the power of the sun's rays bursting out from behind the storm clouds. My harshest critics, however, say, no, that doesn't look like that's what's happening here. Thank you, children of mine.
