Memories and Fairies

Memories of Spruce River

I've been pondering this one for a bit, but I am not sure what else to change/add/eliminate. It's one of my most abstract efforts yet (of the abstract reflections I have done). It is the final result of the plein air canvas I started on my getaway weekend in September. I showed you a few progress shots the other day and this is where I have stopped. I think there are some great areas to explore and I really wanted to create a feeling of layers to the reflection. I hope the deep, dark parts take you into the canvas and the movement in the lighter rings/ripples bring you up to the surface.

As a side note... Tommy lost a tooth on Tuesday and the Tooth Fairy still hasn't come! She must be over-run with house calls these days! That or she has been too side-tracked at the end of the day by "Love It Or List It" and Halloween candy!

It really is hypnotic, mesmerizing. I love it -my sense is to love it and list it!
And then as you yourself suggest or imply, let the tooth fairy get caught up with her visits!

That's a gorgeous painting, with an enthralling play of depth and movement. How do you feel about the light space towards the bottom left? My eye naturally moves there and then pauses.

Maybe there needs to be a moderate blue dash to break up the space? Maybe there needs to be something either in the upper left or bottom right corners that will draw the eyes from the center pause? I don't know.

As is, this is a beautiful painting. I only offer up these observations as feedback that might help you in pondering your next course of action with this work. I'm certain it'll turn out great. :-)

Hi Monika,
The Tooth Fairy finally got her act together last night.... but Tommy hasn't even looked under his pillow yet!!! I think he gave up.

Hi Marcia,

I love your reaction to this painting. Thank you.

Your comment made me giggle. And the Tooth Fairy is now caught up! It seems she was feeling a bit guilty because she added a bit of interest to the pot, too!

Hugs,
Nicki

Hi Lawrence,

I am so tickled that this painting caught your attention and moved you to comment. I really appreciate your thoughtful input. I can see what you are saying about your eye pausing in that lower left area. I like all of your suggestions on how I might keep the eye traveling to the other corners. I think I will play with it a bit more and with any luck, take it to that next level!

Thanks again,
Nicki

Hi R. Garriott,

Thank you so much! I love all of these colours and in person you get a much better sense depth through the layers of glazes.

Hey Nicki - late posting here. Did you work further on this one? I really like the abstract shapes and your palette choice. I'm thinking a dash of dark in the bottom left corner-light swirl? Anyway - would love to see an updated shot of this! Very cool!

Hi Kim, I did work on this one just a bit more. I will post it again very soon to show the most up-to-date version... and hopefully the final version. They are all minor changes. I think I have already added a bit of dark in the light swirl area- I'll double check when I go to the studio this weekend.

Thanks!
