Feelin' Sketchy Saturday

 10 minute charcoal study

10 minute pencil study

 and for your amusement...

a 10 minute contour drawing
(I tried very hard not to look at the paper)

I can't believe it is already Saturday! Where did that week go? I went to the drop-in life drawing class this morning and we had another lovely model. She had beautiful hair- long, wavy and dark.. with the ends dyed green! I also did several gesture drawings which are always fun for loosening up. I didn't stay for the entire time because I had a to-do list that was weighing on my mind.

On Monday I am dropping off five paintings that will be hung in a juried show next weekend. It is the second year for this art show, "Little Gems", which is all about small work (16" or less). Last year artists were able to enter three pieces and this year they upped it to five. I think there should be loads of great work there. The opening reception is Friday, November 18 from 4-9 p.m. and it is a fundraiser for the Saskatoon Food Bank. The show will be at The Mix Artist Collective Studio, 539 24th Street East and runs all weekend.

Love the drawings. The contour is great. So lyrical. I can't imagine getting up to draw on Saturday morning, and I'm proud of you.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks. It isn't hard to be up because everyone else is anyway. I am so excited to be continuing this journey and I really want to get the practice, so it is no chore.

I hope you have recovered from your exciting opening.

I love these figure sketches. So important yet I rarely do them anymore. We're going to have a model on Monday so that should be interesting. It's been years sine I did a life drawing : O Your contour drawings are like a breath of fresh air : )

Great Kim, have fun with your drawing session. I am so rusty, but hopefully I will get feeling more and more comfortable. The drawing sessions I have been going to are great, but they rarely get the model to do long poses, so it is hard to delve into the details. I am going to try to do at least one contour drawing each time because I think they really help you "see" and they usually have such fantastic energy.
