Sitting Pose

Sitting Pose

The model we had for the drawing class was a pro. Her gesture poses for the warm-ups were excellent and her longer poses were well thought out and interesting. She could hold a pose like no other (even with the mosquitoes!)... until this one. Bless her heart, she actually fell asleep! She kept sinking lower and lower until her chest was more caved in and the arm propped on the back of the chair was at a very different angle than when we began.

I like areas of this one; I like her right leg and the overall gesture of her seated position. I think you get a real sense of the way her body weight is distributed in this pose. However, I do feel a bit bad about the man-hand I gave her! She really did have the most graceful and beautiful hands, but you would never know it by the big honkin' mitt I put on her! It's like a paw!!!

Her pose resulted in a great drawing.
I can't imagine sleeping in that pose.

Super work.

I couldn't believe she was dozing off either. She really couldn't keep her eyes open. Despite all that I am happy with the drawing I came out with.

I'm looking forward to the reveal of your large portrait commission tomorrow!

Another one that has worked very well! She does actually look pretty tired in your drawing.

I still struggle with hands and unfortunately you can't usually hide them in long grass as many artists who don't like drawing feet do :(

Hi Judy,

I like your comment about hiding feet in long grass! I feel like I have many struggles ahead of me... and if only they would all have such simple solutions!'
