This was painted on a solid Cadmium Red ground. I wanted the red to show through in little hits of colour as well as give some of the blues a purple tinge. I've got to say, this one is quite striking in person; very dramatic. It is from a photo I took awhile ago and always felt drawn to, but never quite knew how to approach. As I stared at it today I realized it made me think of how the moon looks over the lake when it is glowing through thin clouds and creating a reflection on the rippling water. The photo was actually of a distant storm late in the afternoon, so go with me on this one! The moon is where my mind was as I painted it and that is what I see when I look at it. Join me in my dream, won't you?

Hi Nicki,
I've stayed up really late waiting to see this beauty. (The east eh? What can I say.) So now I will go and dream. Well done, love the red under the blue. Yum.
You are a super painter, and you make me happy.
XOBarbara
Thanks Barbara! I had hoped to post it much sooner, but there was craziness on our block. A major gas leak in a house two doors down from us so we all had to vacate. Turns our there was enough gas in their house to blow the entire city block!!!
Thanks for waiting up- I'm glad you feel like it was worth it!
XO Nicki
