I was asked by a friend to try painting red poppies and this is one of the three attempts I made. I was quite pleased with two of the attempts, and today she chose "Poppies" as the one she wanted for her home (she had seen the above picture and agrees that it doesn't do the painting justice). The frame finished it off; it's amazing how a decent frame can really dress up a small painting.
On a side note it was an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful morning here in the burgh. Hoar frost covered all of the trees in town and it was a beautiful show...
By noon it had warmed up just enough that the thick frost was melting and sliding off the branches making it look like a sunny day snowfall. Ahhhh, simple pleasures are the best.
Have a great weekend!

Yay! Thanks! I will bring the one she didn't take to Gardenscape- it looks really sharp in a white frame. I'll show it on the blog soon.
Congratulations on your commission and the wonderful job you did with it. Did you find the red to be a challenge to work with? (I've always found it to be my biggest color challenge.) Your photos give a wonderful example of how breathtaking your morning must have been. The radiant blue skies really make the whites in the trees glow. Brrrrrrr.....

Thanks Don, I was happy with this one and I'm glad she was too. I have to say that red was a huge challenge! It is not a colour I have worked with much and I definitely need to understand it better.
The frost that morning was magical. And it wasn't really even that cold! I think you could have managed it!
