This was fun. A bit abstract- which I enjoy. I kept trying to sharpen up the image for posting until I finally realized that, hello, it's fog- I painted like that!
I'm trying to challenge myself with colour and I'm gobbling up info. and images from my art books. I definitely have a comfort zone with blues and greens... not so much with reds, oranges and pinks. I want to expand and grow. The soft palette of this painting and "When Will I See You Again?" has been one way to try something different and this afternoon I took a giant step in the opposite direction. You should see the bold shock of a painting I mustered up (for me)! Well, actually you will after it dries and I take a picture. Basically "Sky in July" no longer exists. The more I looked at it, the more I thought, "Yeah, whatever. Blah blah blah". So with Tom Thomson egging me on from the pages, I squeezed out some rarely used reds and magentas and let 'er rip!
UPDATE (Feb. 10): At the studio this morning I was less than enthused about the "bold shock" I created yesterday... you likely won't see it after all!!!
* I just realized this is my 300th post!

lovely nicki! hope all is well. you've been doing some really wonderful work!
Thank you Suzanne. This is a good week... so I'm trying to run with it!
Congratulations on 300 posts! What an accomplishment. "Fog and Ice..." is nice. (Hey, I rhymed!) I like the palette. Kudos to you for continuing to stretch yourself. Isn't it interesting how different a new day's perspective can be on work we've created? I would LOVE to see your "bold shock". I'll bet it's great and you're just uncomfortable with it because it doesn't reflect your usual color choices. "Fire In the Belly" comes to mind...

I love the foggy ice, and loved sky in July. I think it will be fine. the back and forward part is a fact
of life for me.
Love your work so much.

Hi Don,
Yes, 300 posts is a lot... but I keep thinking it is certainly not what a Daily Painter would have logged in the same time period!
Unfortunately the bold shock is not great... but I will try again and maybe the next one (or next one or next one ...) will be!
Nicki
Hi Barbara,
I'm pleased with this one... although the picture may be a tinge off. I might post it on the Daily Paintworks Facebook page this weekend. We'll see.
I love your work too and really enjoy some of the black and white studies you have been doing.
N. XO
