The Approach

I began this one awhile ago at the studio, maybe in September, and I was never happy with it. I made some adjustments the other day and it is working much better. Another dramatic sky in Saskatchewan! I added the rain across the lake to make even more of a story. I toned the canvas with Quinacridone Nickel Azo and I love how that yellow/gold colour peaks through the clouds here and there.

An awesome painting. So wonderful. I said hello to the Group of Seven at the AGO for you the other day. The big Toms are in London, England.

I just heard about the Tom Thomson Gallery in Owen Sound. Have you ever been? I had not known of it's existence before and now I must go!

I'm glad you like this painting.

Gee, thanks Suzanne! It is going in "Little Gems", the local (juried) show of small work and I am dropping it off this evening.

This is definitely a "little gem"! It's rich, it's gorgeous and it's powerful. Well done! Good luck in the show.

This painting is gorgeous! I agree that the way you've got the yellow/orange gilding the cloud forms is lovely.

Best of luck in the show!!!

Thank you so much, Lawrence. I'm pleased you agree that the pops of that golden colour add something extra to the clouds.

Nice to hear from you again so soon,
Nicki

I love the Quin Nickel Azo Gold too. It brings so much life to a piece. I just discovered it in summer at a workshop and now I'm a big fan : )
YES! This is what I'm talking about. Beautiful Saskatchewan skies and drama. Love.

Hi Kim, yes, it is a wonderful colour- in both acrylics and oil. I have also fallen in love with Indian Yellow (not the most politically correct name!) Saskatchewan skies are amazing, you are right about that.
