Time to Celebrate!

I am grateful and I feel like celebrating!

On Monday, October 14th I will post the colour version of this brand new original 10x10 oil painting, "Follow Me", and the details for my FIRST EVER DRAW!

I started my blog ten years ago when I was painting very little and all of the art-related baby steps since then have led to a recent milestone: the launch of my website!

An overwhelming factor in persevering for these ten years has to do with the support I have received in all the forms it has come to me. I am extremely grateful for those who have: written encouraging words through texts, DM's and comments; attended my art shows; shared their knowledge and expertise with me; given me valuable critiques on my work; told their friends and family to check out my art; helped me through the inevitable low points; and of course, those who have purchased.

This painting is a symbolic nod of gratitude to those who follow me and I want someone to win it! Come back on Monday to see the painting in full colour and to find out how to enter!

I love the vibrant, new growth on the tips of evergreen trees in the spring. Such a hopeful sign. This painting has a very different feel than the smaller study, "Three Little Evergreens", which I painted last fall. Here, I let the warmth of the underpainting show through and I included a few dandelions - another sign of spring!

Let's get down to the business of a new painting!

I took many resource photos from the stages of the sun's descent this particular summer evening several years ago and it has kept me going ever since. I continue to be drawn to it, trying something new each time. Even though it's obviously a sunset, I am really excited about some of the more abstract areas:

These areas give me food for thought as I prepare to attend a workshop next weekend on abstracting the landscape with artist and instructor, Susan Woolgar.

This painting and others will be delivered next week to the Assiniboia Gallery in Regina for the feature they are doing on me in March. Stay tuned!

There has been an exciting development in my little art world over the last three weeks. I have been approached by Webster Galleries in Calgary! As a result I envision a little road trip in my near future as I have lots to learn about the art scene in that great city. 

Webster Galleries has been around for thirty plus years and the original owner, John Webster, recently sold his well-established business and retired. The new owner, Paula Cook (she is bursting with enthusiasm), relocated the gallery and reopened in September. That is the Coles Notes version anyway. I am anxious to learn more and to see it all in person. I believe the next step for me is to stretch my wings beyond my province, I just need to make sure the timing is right. The last year and a half were so incredibly busy that a slower pace has a certain appeal, and being sick for two months really drove home the need for balance.

I have been candid with Paula about all of this and I certainly appreciate how understanding she has been. In the meantime she has invited me to be part of the Webster Galleries Small Paintings Show opening on November 30th! I am filled with joy that she is so excited about my art. Thankfully the rotating postal strike did not affect the box I shipped and the gallery is now in possession of nine of my paintings! If you are in Calgary or surrounding area I would love it if you would pop in and let me know what you think. There is an opening for the Small Paintings show on November 30th from 3:00-6:00 and the exhibition runs until December 15th.

Art Now Is This Weekend!

Above are the six new 10x10's debuting in the Assiniblioa Gallery booth at Art Now. Four at a time will be on display with my big painting "Charlotte's Sky", so two will be behind the scenes until they are rotated in.

A huge thank you to The Saskatchewan Craft Council for representing my little work in their booth and for already selling the top right prairie scene in the below collage.

And finally, today is my Artist Talk! It will take place in the Assiniboia Gallery booth at 2:00 and my topic is "The Power of Painting Small and Daily Painting". I will have my Daily Painting Project with me; four of the twelve paintings are still available. I also have a little handout because I am geeky that way. Come if you can!
