Here is the second of the paintings I did last week from the reference photos I took a year ago in the country. I really enjoyed the process of painting last week. I hope this is the beginning of a productive stretch. This painting is very similar to the acrylic painting, Out On Valley Road, which I did en plein air last April. This time I used oil, a smaller support and a reference photo in the studio. Again, I am loving the pool of water reflecting the blue sky right there in the middle of the field. My two favorites are still to come...

Nicki, this is so clean and fresh and feels like the prairies. I love the colours. I've had that feeling too of that startling blue in the skies, reflections in the water - and it makes me shockingly happy : ) Do you have a preference for landscape (oil or acrylic?). I've always done acrylic for large landscape/plein air but am thinking of trying oils... Look forward to tomorrows painting!

Me too, shockingly happy is a great way of putting it.
For the most part everything I did was with acrylics until about a year ago when I began dabbling in oils. I love them, but they are a bit messy for plein air painting. I need a better set-up for transporting the finished work and for clean-up when I am outdoors.
