Little Prairie

A simple little fall scene on the wild prairies. This one will be going to Art @ Solar Gardens with me on Saturday. I am excited to get my display boards out and filled up- it's been awhile.

I have had some interesting conversations with people over the last week in regards to my little paintings compared to my larger work. The points were just touched on, but the jist is that there is a disconnect between the small and large work. I am intrigued and have to do some further investigation as well as deep thinking. I will have to seek these people out to find out more. I do know that I tend to work in a looser style on my small boards and when I get to bigger canvases I slow down and spend more time. As well, my small boards are painted with oils while lately most of my larger work has been acrylic, so I definitely handle the mediums differently.

My goal, as always, is to grow and learn and improve. I want to become a better painter, so constructive criticism is welcome.

Thank you Marcela! This is just what the prairies look like these days, I think you would love it!

Yikes Nicki! You are so kind. I love your big and small work. The person who matters in making your art is you. I'd tell the "constructive" critics to back off. Art is internal. The growth that matters is the growth you want to happen.

I have seen many wonderful artists stopped cold, or changed in sad ways by "constructive criticism." Of course your big and small work is different. It's about scale. Hello!

I appreciate your words Barbara. I have lots to think about. I agree with you but at the same time I want to understand art in a deeper way than I feel I currently do, so that requires me being open to critiques and words of those who I respect. It's not easy, but I think it is the right path for me.

You are always a supportive, shining light. Thank you.
