All I Ever Want

I love doing these paintings; my "abstract reflections". I think I am finished- I went to the studio yesterday afternoon and put on a few finishing strokes and I now am loving it. All I ever want is to make a painting that you can get lost in; one that you can look at for ages and never feel tired. As I was deciding if this painting was finished I kept finding areas that I loved, that are almost abstract paintings in their own right. I realized that if I kept painting I might lose them, so I put the brush down. I hope you enjoy looking at it and over the next couple of days I will post details of my favorite areas.

A quick announcement... My painting "Ripple Effect" (a smaller, different take on "All I Ever Want") has been juried into an upcoming show at AyrSpace in Ontario!

One More Sleep!

The time has come! In one more sleep I leave the men in my life behind and fly east for an exciting adventure! I will be landing in Toronto where I will meet my sister. It is very rare we get time together just the two of us, so I am really looking forward to it. On Saturday I will drive to Ayr, Ont. where I will be attending the "Artist's Preview" of International Women Celebrate! My contribution to this collaboration celebrating the centenary of International Women's Day is called "In My Aura". It will be exhibited alongside over 100 other original artworks by women from around the world. I am beyond excited! I will meet artists Barbara Muir, Kim Rempel, Marcia Cohen Labelle and Tammy Hext! And I am sure I will leave knowing many more than that! I will take lots of photos and share some when I get back. I am especially excited to see Suzanne Berry's painting in person; you can see it on her blog post from January 7th. And Pam Holnback's; see her painting on her January 31st blog post. The official opening gala is taking place on the anniversary date which is Tuesday, March 8. I'll be back home by then, but I will be anxious to hear all about it. Apparently it has been confirmed that the former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Sheila Copps, will be speaking at the gala. The show will continue through to April 10 and is also a fundraiser for charities serving women and children in Haiti.

I am so happy to be part of this. I am so happy I didn't chicken out!

Stay tuned for an update early next week.

This is the third and final sky painting I did in the studio last week. It happens to be my favorite of the three. I'm lovin' how it turned out, if I do say so myself! And even though this is going to sound repetitious, I love the Cadmium Orange ground peeking through. I'm trying to picture it in my mind's eye if I had just worked on a white canvas. I think without those hits of orange it would be a bit dullsville.

And now for a teensy update... CBC TV is coming to interview me at the studio tomorrow! They are excited about the International Women's Day collaboration I am involved in and want to tape a story (is that the lingo?) before my work, "In My Aura", is sent to AyrSpace in Ontario. I may not sleep tonight! I have never done anything like this! Please, let me not have anything in my teeth.... and please, let me not have the twitching eye that has been driving me crazy lately!
