My Snow Angels

Unfortunately I haven't got a new painting to post even though I went to the studio four afternoons last week (yay!). I am working on a large (for me) canvas so it isn't something that I can wrap up in a session or two. It is 22x28 and is a section of a pine tree... along the same vein as "Looking Up". When last I left the studio I was feeling pretty good about how it was shaping up, so hopefully I will be able to show it to you later this week. In the meantime here are some pictures I just took this evening in our backyard. It is a glorious winter night with snow flying, a small wind blowing, and a temperature that is bare-able (-11 Celsius). We had had to go on "a great shovel hunt" because the kids' shovels were not put back after playing on Friday and in the last 36 hours we have had a huge dump of snow. Figures. The yard was covered in a deep blanket of whiteness and the boys had a blast stirring it all up looking for the shovels. Status: Found! On the prairies we are pretty used to these cold, snowy winters so blizzards don't usually phase us too much like they can in other areas of the country. We carry on with caution and help each other when our cars get stuck in snow drifts. We make chocolate chip cookies, drink hot chocolate, snuggle up with a good book... and these days... play Wii for waaaaaaayyyyy too long! However, I do see more fresh air, rosy cheeks and tobogganing in our future!

I am going to have to show my son your boys snow angels. He loves to make them and keeps asking me when we are going to get snow. It is raining in Ontario. Beautiful pictures Nicki, the kids look like they are having a ball.

Great pics of the boys Nicki! I love winter too (even if this ending month looks more like March around here!...rainy today) Can't wait to see the progress on the painting.
"Looking up" is beautiful.

Hi Tammy,
Yes winter can actually be fun if there is enough snow to play in, if the temperatures allow you to spend time outside and if it wraps up in March! There were huge piles at the school today where they had plowed the snow from the teacher's parking lot which meant more good old fashioned fun for the kids at recess.

Hi Pierre,
Nice to hear from you... I'm glad you liked "Looking Up" and hopefully my new pine tree will be done this week if I can get through the snow to the studio! I adore the piece you have posted right now. That green glass and it's reflection are brilliant.
Take care,

Haven't had snow in the Bay Area in a while. I LOVE that last photo with those plump snow flakes surrounding your precious boys like fireflies.

Hi Rahina,
Yup, we haven't had too much this winter, but now we are knee deep in it! I couldn't get to the studio yesterday due to the snow, but I got more done today and hopefully will have something to post by Friday.

Hi Sheila,
Thanks... I loved how the snow looked in these pictures too...especially that last one. I like your analogy to fireflies.

Hi Nicki,

I love this. Great blog and glorious pictures. You are right Toronto does get horribly bogged down in snow. We have not had this winter yet this year. Your pictures make me miss it, but not enough to want it.

Take care

Hi Barbara,
Yes, and I was thinking of Vancouver too. They just aren't equipped if they ever get snow. Our winter was lacking snow until this blizzard. Now we are set for the usual winter activities.
